Dangerous kiss

Who would have known kissing could be so dangerous to your hearing.

Mysterious websites

This is interesting especially coming at this time when things seem so uncertain in Parliament.

New blog

I found this blog this evening and looking at some of the pictures really brought home to me how devastating the attacks in India really were,it's hard to understand how people can do things like this to other human beings.

Coalition?

I am not quite sure what to think of a coalition between the NDP and Liberals as I am not a big fan of the NDP but whatever happens I hope there won't be another election so soon after the last one.Hopefully something can be worked out between all or some of the parties,so that an election can be avoided and things can be accomplished in parliament.

Online revenge

This article strikes me as quite funny but at the same time I do have some sympathy and understanding for the man in the story.I play fluff friends on facebook everyday and have spent small amounts of real money on it and I would be quite unset if anyone deleted my fluff although am not crazy enough to give anyone my facebook password anyway.

Election results

The only thing I can say about the election results is that is wasn't quite so bad as I thought it would be at one point, although our own liberal Mp in Miramichi, for many years did get booted out.

I found this article and particularly the comments on it quite interesting,it seems while many people wouldn't vote for Mr Dion ,they still seem to think he is a honest and decent person.Regardless of what happens on Monday I am sure it will be an interesting time to be following politics in the next little while.

Late calls

This strikes me as kind of funny but then I wasn't woken up ,if I had been I would probably be furious. If it was a liberal this had happened to I wouldn't find it very funny either

Under the circumstances, I don't think getting another phone call would be advisable at this time

I can certainly agree with that ,I can't see how she could even consider sending out another phone call at this point

Pumpkin snatched

What in the world would a person do with a 204 kilo pumpkin. It must be pretty hard to hide something that big especially when it is known one went missing. It also must have been quite a chore to remove the thing.

Morrissy Bridge

I am sad to see the old bridge closed although hopefully it won't be torn down,it would make a very nice walking bridge if it is safe enough for that.I see Fredericton has a walking bridge across their river so I don't see why we couldn't have one in Miramichi as well.I had last crossed the bridge on Wednesday I believe when I went to work but when I went to cross it Friday evening it was closed.

Conservative ad

This is just plain gross,in my opinion an ad showing anyone being pooped on is totally unacceptable for an election campaign I would like to think that all the parties would have more sense than this.

Confused turtles

I wouldn't mind seeing sea turtles in their natural habitat but I am not sure what my reaction would have been if I had experienced this.

Jelly fish population explodes

I have always been interested in the jelly fish I see locally but while I was aware there were many different types,I had no idea some could be so dangerous. The Portuguese Man O' War is very interesting looking but I would not want to see one at close range unless I was well protected.

Fish doctor pedicure

This looks pretty cool and I wouldn't mind having one myself but I think it will be awhile before we see anything like it in New Brunswick.I just hope the fish used are being treated humanely that is my one concern as a fish keeper.

Crickets as human food

I feed crickets to my Asian painted frog but I am not sure I would want to eat them myself.Once you read the article they don't actually sound to bad though ground up into a meal.Live ones are a different story, they move so fast(I have lost a few in our house) they would be hopping all over the restaurant.

Being gay in Jamaica

I was not aware of how bad things are for gays in Jamaica and how much violence there is there in general.Jamaica is really a county I am not that familiar with and I must try to do some reading on it and learn more about it's past and the reasons it has so many problems today.

Amphibians disappearing.

I love to hear the frogs singing outside my window at night and it would be a great loss if they were gone. There are so many interesting and useful amphibians even in our own area,it is a pity people aren't more informed about them.Just the other day when I was out in our yard planting some flowers,I over turned a piece of wood and surprised these two cute little fellows who appear to be salamanders and strongly resembled my fire belly newt except that they were orangey red all over.I hope that they and other amphibians will be around for future generations to discover.

Avoiding plastics

This is an interesting article about trying to live without plastics.I think it may be almost impossible for most of us to completely eliminate plastics from our lives but cutting down on our use of them seems like a good idea after some of the recent stories.I try to never use plastics in the microwave myself only corningware or pyrex but many prepackaged foods come in plastic containers.

Yesterday blackflies,today mosquitoes

There will be many mosquitoes this summer in New Brunswick.

Blackfly alert

An important alert if you plan to spend much time outside this summer. They are already terrible in my backyard.

Bio-fuel risk

This article on bio-fuels shows why things need to be thoroughly researched before they are embarked upon.Even ideas that seem to be great to start out with can have serous drawbacks that aren't always discovered before the damage has been done.I think that bio-fuels do show some promise for the future but the advantages must be weight against the possible disadvantages.

Product of Canada?

I am not a fan of Stephen Harper by any stretch of the imagination but this is one time I agree with him.I think this is a great idea and should have been done long ago.Consumers should be able to know where their food is coming from and the average person looking at a label marked made in Canada expects that all of the product comes from Canada not that almost half could be made anywhere else in the world.

Happy royal occasion

Peter Phillips,Princess Anne son married his Canadian girl friend at Windsor castle over the weekend. Here are some nice pictures of the wedding.I love butterflies but I'm not quite sure what to think of Princess Beatrice's hat.

Love in Saudi Arabia

This is an interesting article about love in Saudi Arabia.Things are so different there than in our own country it is hard for me to even imagine the restrictions placed on young people and on women in particular.

Sunday, April 27, 2008

I have always been fascinated by mushrooms and taken many pictures of them, this one was growing in our front yard a few years ago.

The fact that there is now research being done on how they might help clean up toxic waste is a good thing and if it is proven to work seems like a much better alternative that the others available.

Even with all the study and research that has been done over the years there is still so much we don't know about nature and the value of many wild plants. This is one reason we must work to protect wild areas and their inhabitants.

Americans get thrifty

This article has quite a few statistics for the states ,it would be interesting to know what the ones for Canada are if there are any available.

Food shortages

This article is quite worrisome, and any food storages are sure to effect those who already have much less.I had noticed recently that the price of flour had increased but did realize that food prices were on the rise world wide.

Illlegal dumps

People are so stupid!I don't see why anyone needs to dump their garbage in the woods especially things like used needles that could be harmful to others, when they could just put it out to be picked up.A few years ago someone had dumped about ten bags of garbage on my mothers wood lot(thankfully no medical waste) and it was a big job to get it cleaned up. This sentence in the article shocked me the most:

"A couple of years ago the agency identified 200 to 300 illegal dumps in Yarmouth and Digby counties, Mr. Green said Thursday."

I think that if these are such common behaviours there definitely needs to be tougher laws and enforcement.

bisphenol A

The fact that this stuff is used in baby bottles is quite scary and the fact that it harms fish and other aquatic life is also big concern for me.I wonder how long it has been in use and even if I used bottles with it when I was a baby or if it's use became more common recently. There are so many chemicals, some of which are quite dangerous to human health,in our world today that it seems almost impossible to avoid them all.

Leona Lewis

I recently heard of a new singer named Leona Lewis and after listening to some of her music and downloading several tracks on itunes I can see why she is doing so well.I haven't really liked any of the previous winners of singing contests but I think that Leona Lewis has a great future ahead of her in music.

New kids on the block reunion

I used to love these guys when I was a kid but I don't think I would be interested in seeing them now,my musical tastes have changed quite a bit since then.

Prince Philip on hospital

I really hope he will have a speedy recover as he is one of my favourite royals and someone whose writings I greatly admire.

Tape scandal

This is horrible I really think he should be throw out of the party or at least disciplined in some way but it doesn't seem like that is going to happen. It's awful that some one would think let alone say such hurtful things.I suppose there may be many people with those opinions but at least they are not in public office and Tom Lukiwski hopeful won't be there much longer himself.

To many rabbits

Ugh,people are so irresponsible when it comes to pets.

This line did make me laugh even though this article is not really funny.

In the local paper, proffered solutions have included serving them up in tasty stews to be fed to the homeless or using the fur from slain rabbits for mitts and scarves.

By-election.

I was very happy that Martha Hall Findlay got elected in the by-election,she seems like a smart person and I'm sure will be an asset in the future. That Bob Rae and Joyce Murray got in,is also great news but I think there is much work ahead if the liberals want to have any hope of winning the next election.

Films may not recieve tax dollars

I don't think this is good if it's true,it really seems like censorship to me and I don't see any need for it,no one has to go and see any film if they don't want to but that doesn't mean others may not be interested in viewing it. Many good films could be denied tax credits because of this.

Muslim student associations

I found this article on Muslim students and inclusion very interesting.I find it surprising that some of these organizations are so strict.

Patrone appointed to board

I didn't even realize he wasn't with CTV anymore,it doesn't seem like that long since I saw him on the news. This doesn't look that good and I think it would be a good idea to have him come before the committee but at the same time a person shouldn't be disqualified from such position for life just because they were involved with a political party at some point or many good people would be excluded.

Compromise on war

I am glad to see some compromise on this issue since I wasn't very happy with the liberal position by times and would not be very pleased if they wanted to haul out the troops right away like the Block and NDP.

Tax on plastic bags in Ireland

Plastic bag use in Ireland has gone way down after the implementation of a 33 cent tax on plastic grocery bags.I don't know if people here are ready for something like that or not but I think it would be good idea, most local stores now have reusable bags available to buy for less than a dollar and I hardly ever use plastic bags myself any more.

I have been up to the red pine landfill several times when we had something to big for the garbage truck and the sight of those mountains of garbage is enough to make anyone want to reduce their waste.

Birds find their way home

This reminds me of something that happened when I was a child,we had a cat named Sam that got away from my mother at the animal clinic which was about 10 kilometres or more from where we lived. We though we might never see the cat again even though my mother went down every day and put out food and the people ate the clinic watched for him and said that he might come out at someones house near by if they happen to be out barbecuing but about 4 days later my father went down one morning and the cat was on our door step. It's amazing how animals seem to know the direction to get home even when they are dumped far away.

Parasitic worms

Having recently had to deworm my 4 cats for the second time this year I know quite a bit about worms but I didn't realize exactly how ingenious they really are.

Heath Ledger dies

I was shocked when I saw this, this morning when I turned on the computer,he was such a talented actor and such a young man.

Carbon labels

This an interesting idea but it remains to be seen whether it is feasible. I wouldn't mind seeing how much energy is consumed producing the things I buy.

Man wakes up at his wake

This is kind of scary to think about,at least they didn't bury him alive.

Slow blogging and bees

I haven't found a while lot to blog about recently so I'll be glad when parliament comes back but this article caught my eye.I wonder if some of the virus they talk about affect native bees as well,I see quite a few around my garden in the summer but then other people tell me they don't see many any more.Maybe the native types of bees are more resistant to some of these threats,it would be interested to know if any studies have been done on that topic.

Anyway while I haven't been doing much blogging I have been wasting lots of time online at these two addicting spots-Sylvester
Fish

Bathurst accident

This is a terrible tragedy to lose all these young people who had so much potential and their whole lives ahead of them. I was in shock this morning when I heard the news and will be praying the families, the surviving students and the whole community can find some peace.

Ants on trees in Africa

This just shows when humans try to meddle in nature the result isn't alway predictable. The decline in some of these large animals has consequences that are far reaching and affect far more than the animals themselves and can change the ecosystem in ways we could never imagine.

Persepolis

This book looks good,I will be adding it to my reading list,I also want to read The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd, the last book I read was The Secret Life of Bees and I enjoyed it greatly.

Church allows scattering of ashes

I think this is long over due,I can't see any reason why the church should be against cremation or scattering of a persons ashes if that is their wish.

Soldier letters

I found this in the globe and mail today and it is a cool idea,I will be following it to see what happens.

Monday, January 7, 2008

Carbon tax

I think a carbon tax is probably the way to go and is inevitable in the future but this line from the article really stood out for me"Such a tax could target industry or consumers".I believe that such a tax must be on everyone, both industry and consumers and that no one group should have to bear all of the burden of reducing emissions.

Cat microwaved

This is just horrifying,I have 4 cats myself that I love dearly and I cant imagine how those people would feel to come home after the holidays and find out what had happened to their pet.

Butterfly gets ants to raise it's young

I love to watch the butterflies in the summer and try to identify the different ones so I wonder if any of the ones we see do this .

Winter storm

Time to sharpen up the snowshoes ,personally I love the winter and the more snow the better but I know lots of people don't share my opinion and will be complaining about the weather today.
