Muslim student associations

I found this article on Muslim students and inclusion very interesting.I find it surprising that some of these organizations are so strict.

Patrone appointed to board

I didn't even realize he wasn't with CTV anymore,it doesn't seem like that long since I saw him on the news. This doesn't look that good and I think it would be a good idea to have him come before the committee but at the same time a person shouldn't be disqualified from such position for life just because they were involved with a political party at some point or many good people would be excluded.

Compromise on war

I am glad to see some compromise on this issue since I wasn't very happy with the liberal position by times and would not be very pleased if they wanted to haul out the troops right away like the Block and NDP.

Tax on plastic bags in Ireland

Plastic bag use in Ireland has gone way down after the implementation of a 33 cent tax on plastic grocery bags.I don't know if people here are ready for something like that or not but I think it would be good idea, most local stores now have reusable bags available to buy for less than a dollar and I hardly ever use plastic bags myself any more.

I have been up to the red pine landfill several times when we had something to big for the garbage truck and the sight of those mountains of garbage is enough to make anyone want to reduce their waste.

Birds find their way home

This reminds me of something that happened when I was a child,we had a cat named Sam that got away from my mother at the animal clinic which was about 10 kilometres or more from where we lived. We though we might never see the cat again even though my mother went down every day and put out food and the people ate the clinic watched for him and said that he might come out at someones house near by if they happen to be out barbecuing but about 4 days later my father went down one morning and the cat was on our door step. It's amazing how animals seem to know the direction to get home even when they are dumped far away.

Parasitic worms

Having recently had to deworm my 4 cats for the second time this year I know quite a bit about worms but I didn't realize exactly how ingenious they really are.

Heath Ledger dies

I was shocked when I saw this, this morning when I turned on the computer,he was such a talented actor and such a young man.

Carbon labels

This an interesting idea but it remains to be seen whether it is feasible. I wouldn't mind seeing how much energy is consumed producing the things I buy.

Man wakes up at his wake

This is kind of scary to think about,at least they didn't bury him alive.

Slow blogging and bees

I haven't found a while lot to blog about recently so I'll be glad when parliament comes back but this article caught my eye.I wonder if some of the virus they talk about affect native bees as well,I see quite a few around my garden in the summer but then other people tell me they don't see many any more.Maybe the native types of bees are more resistant to some of these threats,it would be interested to know if any studies have been done on that topic.

Anyway while I haven't been doing much blogging I have been wasting lots of time online at these two addicting spots-Sylvester
Fish

Bathurst accident

This is a terrible tragedy to lose all these young people who had so much potential and their whole lives ahead of them. I was in shock this morning when I heard the news and will be praying the families, the surviving students and the whole community can find some peace.

Ants on trees in Africa

This just shows when humans try to meddle in nature the result isn't alway predictable. The decline in some of these large animals has consequences that are far reaching and affect far more than the animals themselves and can change the ecosystem in ways we could never imagine.

Persepolis

This book looks good,I will be adding it to my reading list,I also want to read The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd, the last book I read was The Secret Life of Bees and I enjoyed it greatly.

Church allows scattering of ashes

I think this is long over due,I can't see any reason why the church should be against cremation or scattering of a persons ashes if that is their wish.

Carbon tax

I think a carbon tax is probably the way to go and is inevitable in the future but this line from the article really stood out for me"Such a tax could target industry or consumers".I believe that such a tax must be on everyone, both industry and consumers and that no one group should have to bear all of the burden of reducing emissions.

Cat microwaved

This is just horrifying,I have 4 cats myself that I love dearly and I cant imagine how those people would feel to come home after the holidays and find out what had happened to their pet.

Shopdropping

I have never heard of shopdropping happening around here but it's a cool idea.I would mind getting a free cd in my jeans but I not so keen on religious pamphlets in my magazines. All things consider it seems like an interesting way to get out a message or promote a new band or artist.
